Let’s face it, statement jewellery can be hard to pull off, but that doesn’t mean you should ditch your bold items in favour of something plain and unadorned. Although it’s safer to opt for a plainer necklace or pair of earrings, you’ll be missing out on all the refined and beautiful looks that can be created by wearing larger and more colourful pieces.
It will come as no surprise that black and statement jewellery go together like Netflix and hangovers, but a simple sweetheart neckline will truly accentuate the necklace (or earrings) without creating too much fussiness (check out Alicia Vikander’s 2017 Oscars look here!). A ‘not-too-neat’ bun will ensure that the area around the jewel is uncluttered. You won’t need earrings and a necklace for this outfit as one focal point is more than enough. Black and white complement any style of statement jewellery, but you might want to opt for a metallic necklace/pair of earrings if your dress has a print.
TIP: Black and green are best friends 😉. See our green agate necklace pictured above.
Contrary to belief, coordinating your earrings with your outfit is far from being a fashion faux pas. In fact, if done well, you can get the best of both worlds: elegance and originality. While matching your necklace with your upper attire doesn’t quite have the same low-key effect, correlating your earrings can make for a unique and relaxed appearance. Pastels or warm colours work best on a day-to-day basis and if your earrings are multicolour, just pick the colour you want to go with and wear a top to match.

This ensemble would not look amiss on any lazy Sunday. Informal upper garms coupled with some cute jeans will make the most outrageous pair of earrings appear casual and every day. On the flip side, the earrings will add colour and life to an otherwise rather basic get-up. For work, replace the jeans with formal trousers and for colder days, opt for a chunky white knit jumper.
Paired with jeans, a simple striped high-neck top will go perfectly with your favourite statement necklace. Not only that, but it will also prevent your skin from getting irritated throughout the day. There are no limits when it comes to this look – concerning your necklace, that is. The bolder, the better.
If you really want to show off those eye-catching earrings, the best way to do it is with a strapless top or dress - the earrings will draw attention to your shoulders as well as adorn your face. Zoe Kravitz knows how to pull off this look perfectly judging by her outfit at this year’s Golden Globes. An off the shoulder neckline will go just as well but steer clear of psychedelic or flashy prints if you’re aim is to have an understated look - the earrings must be the centre of attention.
Psss… We love these green onyx vermeil earrings from Wolf and Badger, but for something sleeker take a look at these cuties from our own website.
That’s all folks. Now go forth and be beautiful, but above all, be bold!
